Sandra was born on February 13, 1937 in Heyworth, IL, the daughter of Lewis and Alberta (Patterson) McVicker. She was a graduate of Bement High School and Northwestern University Nursing School. She moved to Washington, D.C. during her first marriage, to Joseph E. Mohbat, which spanned the time he covered the Robert Kennedy presidential campaign for the Associated Press. She divorced, returned to Chicago, IL, and married Robert L. Rosenfield M.D., a University of Chicago pediatric endocrinologist, on April 14, 1973. Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Rosenfield of Chicago and Monticello; children, Thomas J. Mohbat of Hilo, HI, Benjamin L. Rosenfield of San Francisco, CA, Saul A. Rosenfield of Monticello; grandchildren, Sofia Z. Rosenfield and Lilah Z. Rosenfield. She was preceded in death by her parents. Sandra was a Registered Nurse. Her main professional interest was the hospice movement. She helped found one of the first hospice services in Chicago, and later staffed Chicago’s first in-patient hospice unit. In retirement, she certified as a Master Gardener and Master Naturalist and then volunteered regularly with the East Central Illinois Master Naturalist program. She was active in Monticello environmental and quality of life issues. She was an avid reader and volunteered extensively to help the elderly, both in-home and at the Piatt County Nursing Home. She celebrated life and friends and believed in death with dignity. A Memorial Reception will be held at The Steeple Gallery, 102 E Lafayette St, Monticello on Friday May 8 at 4-6 PM; remembrances will be welcome. A Celebration of Life gathering will be scheduled in the future. Memorial donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Piatt County Nursing Home Foundation, Monticello, IL 61856 or the donor’s choice.
