Eliza and Deborah were both in Mobile AL by at least 1840 with the Quigley men who were brothers. Deborah and her brother, Johnathan, ended up in Hocking and Athens Co., OH by 1850. Deborah had a picture taken in Tuscarawas Co., OH...guessing between 1850 and 1860 due to her census listings. Perhaps her parents or another sibling unknown were in that area as she never lived there.

  7. [S10541] Somers Genforum, online http://www.genforum.com/somers, I am looking for information on a Deborah Somers b. c. 1816 in or near Camden NJ. Her parents are said to be Isaac and Hannah who emigrated from England after their marriage. The Somers were Quakers and Deborah married a Nathan Quigley in Mobile AL in 1831 (he weas a baptized Presbyterian). She left AL and came to Hocking CO OH sometime between 1840 and 1850 with their 4 children. Family tradtion has it that there was some sort of quarrel and she left her husband and came North. She is found in the 1850 Hocking Co. census living near a P.F. Somers (male), also born in NJ. She may have had a sister named Eliza who married Nathan's brother, William around 1825. Can anyone shed any light on this family? I am not completely sure of the parents names.

Supposedly the wife moved north to OH with the children at some point early in the mariage and left the husband behind due to her disapproval or slavery (again, family legend).

in the city of Mobile, Alabama, June 13th 1858, of congestion of the brain and to my certain knowledge, leaving nothing for the support and maintenance of the family. At the death of Thomas R. Quigley did not own or possess, to the value of three hundred dollars in property; and in my opinion she is entitled to, and worthy of your consideration for a pension.
The undersigned has made persistent efforts to obtain the Post office address of Col. John E. Hudson 181st Regt O.V.I., and also the P.O. address of Major Sol B Wolf late surgeon of said Regt and of the Captain of Co. A, 181st Regt aforesaid by writing letters to different pri..ts, and by causing advertisements requesting information of their whereabouts to be furnished in the Daily Ohio State Journal and the Cincinati Times; but thus far without success. The certificate from Charles H. Scott, Supt of Cave Hill National Cemetery at Louisville, Ky. hereto attached and marked "A" is the most positive and direct evidence of the said Thomas R. Quigley's death which he (the undersigned) has thus far been able to procure. The official notice received by his mother ... after his death has been forwarded to your Department.

[S10907] Cathy Lawrenz, "Cathy Lawrenz," e-mail to Jenny Rasmusson, 9/23/2007, In response to your favor of the 7th inst., in relation to the accrued pension due at the date of the death, in 1878, of Deborah A. Quigley, she having been an applicant for pension on account of the death of a son, and the certificate for her pension having been received the day following her funeral, I have the honor to inform you, that prior to the approval of the Act of March 1st, 1890, the accrued pension due deceased pensioners was paid to the widow, or, if there was no widow, to the child or children of such person under the age of sixteen years; but if no widow or child survived the pensioner, so much of the accrued pension as might be necessary to reimburse the person who bore the exprenses of the last sickness or such pensioner would be allowed if applied for, provided he or she did not leave sufficient assets to meet the same.
Enclosed is a copy of Sec. 4718 Revised Statutes, which relates to the subject. . . .
In this case the act aforesaid does not apply, for the reason that the check for the first payment of the pension must have been issued subsequent to said date, and the accrued pension can be paid only under the provision of Sec. 4718 above mentioned.

    U. I. Quigley, well known throughout the State as a financial agent for missions, had been engaged the year before (1896) as a solicitor of students, and saved the school from closing its doors on account of insufficient patronage and a consequently inadequate income. With his coopration the present management succeeded in filling the school with an eample and selfsustaining patronage. His death, in January, 1900, was a serious loss to the school. The primary purpose of the school was, and is, the education of orphan and other dependent girls.

The circumstances of his death were of such a painful nature as to schock our
whole community and has cast a gloom over the neighborhood which will be hard
to dispel. The shock to his family was prostrating and they have the deepest
sympathy not only of friends and neighbors but of all who heard of their sad
    experience.

Mr. Blatchley's character as known by his friends expecially by those who kenw
him best, was upright, and his decision for righteousness was of the finest
order. He was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed and his
influence was a force that was felt by all who came in contact with him.
Called by his Maker without a moment of waring he was ready. At the time of
his death he was a faithful member of the Valley Baptist Church.

Mr. Blatchley leaves his wife, Deborah W., two daughters, Constance and Ione
and a son, Miles W., besides immediate family are this mother, Mrs. Emily
Blatchley of San Francisco, two brothers, Harvey of Denver Colo., and Henry of
Maquoketa, Iwoa and two sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Pickering of San Francisco, Cal.,
and Mrs. Mabel Case of Troy, Kansas.

Mrs. Blatchley will continue the work of her husband on the ranch while
deprived of her devoted companion and chief support her comfort will be the
children loyal in loving devotion to her and her relatives and friends who have
found that to know her is to love and admire.

They didn't think that she would live, so they put her in a shoe box, in cotton, and put milk on her lips to keep them from parching. They placed her on the oven to keep her warm while she died. But of course, she didn't die. People would come for miles around to touch her because they felt she was "good luck".

I think since she lost her father as a baby the older boys babysat her.

you. Deborah Neely is buried here in the Kearney Cemetery. She died
Dec 31, 1926 at age 54. One of the items we are mailing is a photocopy
of her Record of Interment card. Since she owned property, her estate
was probated so we have included copies of key pages of that file. We
did not find a burial site for her husband, James. Wonder where he went to.
There are three Neely burials in the Riverside Cemetery at

appeared in the Gibbon Reporter and are included in a collection we have
at the archives so copies of those are included also.

Abraham Lincoln Blatchley was born at Vandalia, Illinois, September 29th 1863.
He was injured by falling from a hay stack on a pitchfork June 21, he was taken
to McCook that evening, and June 22, a skilled surgeon and nurse came from
Lincoln and performed an operation in hope of savings his life, but he died the
same evening at 5 o'clock his wife being with him continuously from the time of
    the accident till he died.

He was the third of a family of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. J. W.
Blatchley. When fifteen years old he moved with his parents to Rush county,
Kas., where the family resided on a farm about eight years, when they went to
Sterling, Neb., when Lincoln learned the milling business. In 1890 he with his
father bought the mill site at Steele City and rebuilt the Steele City roller
mills which had been destroyed by fire. In 1904 they traded their mill
property in Steele City to A. J. Coons for his ranch in Hayes county which they
owned in partnership until the next year when Lincoln bo't his father's
interest in the ranch and continued to operate it up to the time of his death.

Grandfather Quigley married her after much investigation to see if they were any way related.
His first died in childbirth so he swore he was going to be a Dr. to save pregnant women as he thought it was an unnecessary loss of life so at a later time in life got his Dr's degree and I understood never lost a case. When he learned he had T. B. took the family down to Missouri where he thought he could be near I think his brothers.
