Eliza and Deborah were both in Mobile AL by at least 1840 with the Quigley men who were brothers. Deborah and her brother, Johnathan, ended up in Hocking and Athens Co., OH by 1850. Deborah had a picture taken in Tuscarawas Co., OH...guessing between 1850 and 1860 due to her census listings. Perhaps her parents or another sibling unknown were in that area as she never lived there.

Their children are all listed as being born in Pilesgrove: ISAAC, Elizabeth (1769), Jacob (1771) , Rebecca (1774)and David (1777). The birthdate given for Isaac is 20 Aug 1767. I had originally dismissed him as "our" Isaac because that same birthdate is also given for another Isaac (John+Hannah>Isaac+Unknown>Isaac+Maryann Steelman>Isaac+Susannah Conover. The Isaac who married Susannah Conover died in Galloway Township, Gloucester in 1827. I think it is very likely that someone put the wrong date on the wrong Issac. That is why I didn't put too much faith in this other one because I thought it was the same person....if that makes sense. Also in 1777, Isaac and Elizabeth deeded land to Samuel Lippencott. I couldn't tell exactly where the land was but am checking on it and figure they were still in Pilesgrove. Tons of Lippencotts were in Pilesgrove from early on.

Quakers worshipping at Pilesgrove meeting were members of Salem Monthly Meeting until Pilesgrove was "set off" as a monthly meeting. Therefore, Isaac Somers (Summers) was born under the care of Salem Monthly Meeting. His parents, Isaac and Elizabeth, were married in 1765, not under the care of the meeting, but acknowledged that they should have gone through the proper procedure. Both apologized and regained their membership in 1770. Their children's births are listed in the Salem Monthly Meeting records, including Isaac and his sister Elizabeth who were born before the parents were restored to membership.

[S10627] Erin Courtney, "Courtney," e-mail to Jenny Rasmusson, 9/25/2006, Moving along.....on the Pilesgrove tax list for 1793 there is an Isaac "Samers" and a Samuel Somers (haven't figure out who he is yet). In 1797, Isaac Somers and Hannah h/w sold400 acresin Salem Co. to Jacob Green. On June 7, 1802, Isaac Somers and wife sell land in Pilesgrove to Samuel Hillman. In 1808, there is an Isaac Somers on the tax list in Newton Township. I did a bit of researching and Newton Township (now defunct) was in the part of Gloucester Co. that eventually became the city of Camden.

Just an aside, on the 1793 tax list in Pilesgrove was a Richard FISHER and in Upper Penns Neck in 1773 was a Thomas Fisher. A common name, I know but........

Peter Summers/Somers and Elizabeth Kite had, among other children, a son named Isaac Somers. The timeframe and location are right for him to be my ancestor. I've had a devil of a time trying to locate this particular Isaac Somers. His wife's name was Hannah and the first "sighting" of them is from the Index of Land Documents at the Gloucester County Historical Society.
14 Dec 1796 Isaac Somers & Hannah h/w sold 200 acres in Salem Co. to Jacob Green.
As you know, Isaac and Hannah sold land to Jacob Green in Salem Co. in 1796. The will of Jacob Green,24 May 1797, gives the location of his land as being in Upper Penns Neck Twp. It mentions a plantation on Racoon Creek (except 5 acres of meadow purchased of Maria Ballenger) and a half part of a plantation purchased of Charles Holton. The remainder of real to be sold. In his will, 23 Oct. 1778, Isaac Somers left his son, Isaac, the upper part of land in Upper Penns Neck..
