Biography

Charles Bennett was born on 3 January 1794 in Ohio.1,2,3 He was born on 5 January 1794 in Pennsylvania.4,5 He was born on 5 December 1794 in Ohio.6 He and Susanna Huff were married on 25 December 1817 in Pike county, Ohio.7,8,9,10,11 He died on 11 December 1836 at age 42 in Marysville, Vermilion County, Illinois. POTOMAC (Marysville) was first settled as a farm by John Smith (plain) in 1845. Isaac Meneley and others soon came to help Smith make a town. Both Smith and Meneley had wives named Mary, so they hit upon the plan of calling the town Marysville, after the two best Marys then living in town. The post office of Marysville was suspended for awhile, and when it was reinstated, the postoffice department changed the name to Potomac because of the near proximity to Myersville which seemed to confuse the mail carriers with the name Marysville. Marysville was incorporated into a village in 1876 but soon lost its identity as a name and is known as Potomac. The artesian wells have made Potomac famous in the county.2,6 He was buried after 11 December 1836 in Potomac, Vermilion County, Illinois. Buried in Potomac Cemetery.2,12,5

This may also be Charles Bennet, father and son, since Charles is taxed on Chattel -- it is more likely that this may be the son, not the father.16 He was taxed in 1826 in Madison Township, Scioto, Ohio.16 He was created from Edgar county, Illinois in 1826 in Vermilion County, Illinois. The county was officially created on January 18, 1826 from a portion of Edgar County. There was an unorganized territory to the north and west which was attached to the county; Champaign and Iroquois counties were formed from part of this territory in 1833. The remainder was used to create Ford County in 1859; this was the last county to be formed in the state. He was taxed in 1828 in Madison Township, Scioto, Ohio.16 He lived at Collisons Point in Middle Fork Township, Vermilion County, Illinois, in 1828.17,18,6 He was taxed in 1829 in Seal Township, Pike County, Ohio.16 He was taxed in 1829 in Middlefork Township, Vermilion County, Illinois.19 He was a grantee of on 30 May 1829 of in Vermilion County, Illinois.20,21 He appeared in the census in 1830 in Vermilion County, Illinois.
